- A 10-year-old beagle came to us after being treated with 2 pain medications by another veterinary clinic. He was stiff legged and held his head down low as he walked and had difficulty laying down. He had also recently started growling and biting at his toddler human sister so her safety had become an issue. Thankfully Sammy responded immediately to a combination of Veterinary Medical Manipulation (VMM), Cold Laser and Acupuncture. After his first VMM session he shook his head and ears for 3 minutes and then ran back and forth between Dr. Bradley Bays and the veterinary assistant, as if to say thank you! After all of his treatments he was returned to is owner and she couldn't believe how much better he was walking and acting right away. He continued his treatments and is no longer as painful and getting along better with his toddler sister.
- A 1-year-old male neuter cat was brought in due to aggression directed at his male owner and the 5-year-old son. The mom was pregnant and was due to deliver in a couple of weeks. They feared for the safety of the new baby and if they couldn't get help they would have to take the cat to a shelter. Dr. Bradley Bays told them that acupuncture would help but I couldn't guarantee complete success. They all agreed to try as they wanted to keep their cat. With some difficulty she was able to get the aggressivelyhissing cat out of the carrier and place six acupuncture needles for ten minutes. She then told them that we should probably repeat the treatment in 2 weeks. She didn't hear back from them after the appointment and they didn't reschedule and this led her to think that they had had to relinquished him to a shelter after all. One month after the initial treatment some relatives of theirs came in and said that theacupuncture had been a success. They had been able to keep their kitty, the new baby had arrived and all was well with the family.
- Big dogs can be expensive to treat for chronic issues like arthritis and it often takes multiple medications, special food and other supplements to keep them comfortable. An elderly black lab that weighed 105 pounds, was one such patient. Owned by an elderly woman on a fixed income the medications, joint diet and supplement were not affordable for her. We suggested cold laser treatments and she chose a package deal for several treatments at a discount and he was more comfortable and had better quality of life right away.
- An 8-year-old Dutch rabbit with a paralyzed left leg and severe arthritic changes in her lumbosacral spine, was urinating on herself, painful, lethargic, and depressed. She could move on her own, but only by pulling herself forward with her front legs with her rear legs dragged behind her. Before making the final decision for euthanasia, the bunny was offered acupuncture along with continued pain medication. Her initial response to the treatment was mostly in her affect, appearing more comfortable, less painful and less depressed and eating better almost immediately. After the second treatment, she was using her right rear leg and hopping about. Her left rear limb showed improvement and her response to a toe pinch indicated improving neurological function of the limb. Although she still had some residual urinary issues, she was able to hop with both rear legs and to use the left rear foot to clean her ear. Her quality of life improved significantly, and she continued to do well for 2 more years.
- An elderly Brittany spaniel, presented at our clinic with a severe head tilt, ataxia (stumbling and difficulty walking) and other signs of geriatric vestibular syndrome. This is an issue that takes time to resolve and sometimes the patients are left with a head tilt forever. The owner was offered Veterinary Medical Manipulation and Aqua Acupuncture and had 2 treatments 3 days apart (the frequency of treatments is increased in severe acute issues). By the second treatment she was walking much better and had much less of a head tilt. The owner thought her quality of life was better than it had been for a long time. Her treatments continued once per week for a few more weeks.
- A geriatric beagle mix, and a geriatric schnauzer, were both presented for euthanasia consultation and both had severe mobility issues and some evidence of senility or cognitive dysfunction. A combination of Veterinary Medical Manipulation and Aqua Acupuncture were offered to see if mobility and quality of life could be improved. Both dogs responded so well that they were still with their humans several months after beginning treatment.
- A 3-year-old kitty with Intestinal Lymphoma was started on acupuncture and herbal treatments after 3 months of chemotherapy. His quality of life improved dramatically and immediately. His acupuncture, at first 1 week apart and the 2 weeks apart continued for 2 years and 11 months despite the fact that most intestinal lymphoma patients usually only live 12 to 18 months after the diagnosis with chemotherapy. His human Mom was so happy to have him live such a good life for those extra years and she was so thankful for that extra time.
- An 18-year-old cat with chronic kidney disease, presented later in his disease process and already on a special diet and being given daily subcutaneous fluids by the owner. The owner opted to try acupuncture but was somewhat skeptical about how it would help. Like many owners she was grasping at straws to try to give her kitty a longer life and to help him to have better quality of life for his end of life time. He was lethargic and not eating as well as he had. He responded immediately to the treatments and was eating better and acting better right away. His owner reported that he was playing and doing things that she hadn't seen him doing for many months prior to the treatment. He lived for another 8 months with a much better quality of life.
